Continuity is a key factor with respect to test management procedures. This precaution extends to these following issues:

1) Where possible use the same rater for the same patient for all study visits.

2) Testing should be conducted in the same room.

3) Assessments should also be scheduled for approximately the same time of day.

With respect to 3), diurnal variation in cognitive performance is a well-documented phenomenon in even typical controls and might if anything be exacerbated in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders.
